I'm a 21 year old engineering graduate, currently residing in Bangalore. An aspiring scientist. I like to spend my time reading (mostly fiction), sketching, and listening to online poetry slams. I started taking interest in writing about science, because it corresponds to my interests in both science and literature. Being able to explain complex research in simple, exoteric form, to reach out to a larger audience, is quite inspiring.

I am a PhD student in the Bioengineering department at Rice University. My research interests encompass developmental biology, neuroscience and systems biology. I like to combine computational tools with in vitro experiments to yield unique into multicellular systems. In my current work, I apply an interesting combination of live cell imaging, image analysis and graph theory to unearth general design principles of neural network formation from stem cells. As a graduate student, I have come to realize that accurately disseminating research work to the broad scientific community is an essential part of the scientific process. I am currently endeavoring to master the art of science communication as an intern at the Science Media Center.

I am an engineer who is currently doing a PhD in Biology. Science has been my ally and friend since childhood which has eventually defined and designed my passion. I was always curious to understand how nature has sculpted the world we live in. I am currently working in an ecology lab at IISER Thiruvananthapuram where I am trying to explore the visual ecology of fruit bats.

Other than this, I am always interested in reading classical tamil literature and it has seeded me the inspirations of becoming a writer. World class poetry like Thirukkural has shown me the importance of explaining complex things in a short and sweet way. It also made me understand the impact of good writing on the society.

With this being said, I am here to try creating a bridge between hard core scientists and the common man. As Charlie Chaplin once said ""Let us fight for a world where science and progress will lead to all men's happiness"", I feel its my duty to make science a tool for achieving universal brotherhood. I hope I will do justice to this purpose with my science writing.

I have finished BS-MS in Physics from IISER, Thiruvananthapuram and am currently working as a project fellow at the institute in the field of Quantum Information Theory.

As someone interested in scientific pursuits as well as writing, popular science writing interests me with its twin achievements, informing society to gradually bring about a general scientific temperament being the obvious among them. Equally important, I believe, is the sense of inspiration that comes from learning about the scientific progress we have made as a civilization and the scale of technology we are today capable to wield.

I’m doing my master’s at Pondicherry University, and hope to be an ecologist/conservation biologist. I also like to think of myself as a writer, and maintain a blog too. Science writing started out as something that was interesting, for me. Over time, though, it’s become much more than that. I truly believe that writing about science, and ecological issues in particular, can bring about awareness in the general public. And that without this awareness and sensitivity from people, conservation cannot move forward in a meaningful manner. I also enjoy reading, bird watching, watching TV shows and spending time with my cat.

Love for nature and wildlife made me pursue a master’s degree in Environmental Science from University of Delhi, followed by a Master of Research degree in Marine and Freshwater Ecology and Environmental Management from University of Glasgow, Scotland.

While pursuing my studies I worked as a lab demonstrator for second year undergraduates in University of Glasgow. Back home I briefly worked for ATREE (Delhi), Department of Environment (Govt. of Delhi) and taught science to high school kids in a school.Currently, I work for Bhaktivedanta Academy for Spiritual Sciences where I am one of the team members running a Newsletter.

I always had an inclination towards writing and over the years developed a liking for popular science writing and the way it’s helping general masses appreciate science more than ever. Writing for Research media of IISc fulfills that desire to bring the latest developments in science and technology to the common man.

I am a molecular biologist, with a passion for science communication. My main interests in research involve studying bacterial pathogens and the strategies they employ to adapt to their host environment. I am a great fan of synthetic biology, and do a lot of molecular tweaking to understand basic signalling mechanisms of cells.

I believe that all science is logic and common sense and can be communicated in such a way that anyone who reads can understand. Jargon and rhetoric have been invented by people who like to feel important (some jargon is useful though). I love listening to people talking about their own research as much as I love talking about mine (well, almost!).

On my free time, I write fiction and travel. I am partway through writing my own novel and am paranoid about the fine line between being influenced by literature and plagiarizing literature!

Currently, I am at the fag end of my PhD, contribute regularly to Azim Premji University's magazine 'I Wonder' and work for you guys!
